Shane has lived in the area since 1977. Shane lives in Redlynch with his wife & two children. The other five children are scattered around Australia.

In 1980 Shane embarked on a career as a licensed plumber,
working on such buildings as The Aquarius, Pacific, Hilton, Cairns Base Hospital and hundreds of houses in and around the Cairns environs.

Shane owned several of his own businesses in Cairns for over the last twenty eight years.

During the 1990’s Shane owned and operated six restaurants and two takeaways, and employed over forty staff.

In 1999, Shane ran in the local Cairns City Council elections, although not winning, he gained 23% of the vote in Division 7. Shane was asked to run in the 2020 local  council elections by the current mayor.

From 1995 until 2002, Shane was the Chairperson of the Cairns Venue Managers Association, which was instrumental in the improvement of the safety of late night inner city patrons and decreased  alcohol related violence in the CBD for two years  running. Shane was a  committee member on the Cairns Safety Action Committee for 7 years.

Shane is also a Justice of the peace (Qualified)
